Skoon Fellowship Program

A professional immersion that turns young graduates into skilled practitioners.

Since its foundation, Inawa has been driven by a simple belief: African talent is a catalyst for the continent’s development. This commitment has built a global network of Alumni who began their careers with us. In 2024, we formalized this vision with the Inawa Skoon Fellowship. “Skoon”, a contraction of Soukoune, meaning School in “Yom” a language from Benin. A 12 months, fully funded and highly structured immersion as a Research Assistant, designed to give fellows their first real professional experience.

What does the Fellowship offer

A fully funded 12-months immersion, including stipend, with a structured learning journey with the following benefits:

  • Hands-on experience as a Research Assistant (research, studies, data analysis)
  • Direct mentorship from senior experts + continuous feedback and coaching
  • Placement on real, high-stakes projects, not simulations
  • Close supervision and strong support to accelerate learning and performance
  • Rapid skill-building (analytical, professional, and delivery standards)
  • Performance-based bonuses tied to measurable contributions
  • Access to a global Alumni community for networking and long-term support
  • Professional references and career acceleration (stronger employability; potential opportunities after the fellowship)

Who is it for?

A fast, demanding, and rewarding learning journey for ambitious young graduates ready to learn quickly, contribute meaningfully, and join a growing community of African professionals around the world.

The program gave me the opportunity to grow beyond technical skills and step into a true leadership journey. Through my involvement in training field teams and in designing and digitizing complex data collection tools, I gained practical experience in large-scale data and monitoring projects. Working closely with experienced professionals helped me build confidence, take on greater responsibility, and make a meaningful contribution to the success of our missions.”

Stephen Ezin

Skoon fellow 2024-2025

The program was a particularly meaningful experience of mentorship and learning for me. Throughout the journey, we encountered challenges, but we were able to overcome them together with solidarity and determination. To future cohorts, I would say: make the most of this unique opportunity. As for the partners who support this initiative, their commitment deserves deep recognition, investing in youth is a concrete way of helping build a better future.”

Kawsar Gounou

Skoon fellow 2024-2025

Being part of the first cohort marked an important step in my journey. This experience allowed me to become fully engaged in fieldwork while strengthening both my technical and interpersonal skills in a lasting way. The knowledge and abilities I developed during that period continue to serve me every day. I am proud to identify with Inawa Institute’s vision and with the importance it places on developing young talent.”

Ivan Houngbo

Skoon fellow 2024-2025

Through my experiences as Skoon fellow, I have built strong expertise in methodological design, rigorous analysis, and research project management, spanning field monitoring to data utilization. Beyond technical competencies, this experience has deepened my commitment to evidence-based policymaking and strengthened my passion for knowledge sharing through teaching Python and mentoring emerging talent in data science.”
