From November 22 to 26, 2021, senior officials of Benin’s Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) participated in an intensive training workshop on the advanced use of STATA software at Hotel Terra Nostra in Ouidah. The training focused on strengthening participants’ skills in tax revenue modeling, forecasting, and simulation.
Delivered by two statistics and economics experts from Inawa Institute, the five-day workshop was organized at the request of the Direction de la Planification Strategique et des Études (DPSE) of the Direction Générale des Impots (DGI) and supported by the project “Support to Public Finance Reform for the Achievement of the SDGs and the Strengthening of Domestic Revenue Mobilization” (ReFORME). The ReFORME project is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and commenced on January 4, 2021, with a two-year implementation period.
Throughout the training, participants from the Tax Policy Unit (UPF), alongside representatives of the ReFORME project and the DGI, acquired advanced analytical and econometric tools designed to expand their methodological approaches to economic studies and tax policy analysis.
The newly acquired competencies will enable DGI staff to conduct more comprehensive evaluations of tax expenditures and to estimate the impact of selected tax exemptions using econometric models. By strengthening the quality and scope of tax expenditure assessments, the training contributes to more informed fiscal decision-making and improved public revenue management in Benin.
