On July 16, 2025, Benin’s entrepreneurial landscape reached a new milestone at the LuxAid Challenge Fund awards ceremony. Representing Inawa Institute, Djamiou Ohounko attended the event to track these market shifts as seven local startups, selected from 81 applicants, were recognized for their potential to transform the national digital economy. This program, born of a partnership between the Beninese government and Luxembourg Cooperation (LuxDev), goes well beyond simple grant funding. From Inawa Institute’s perspective, its true value lies in the rigorous selection process and the structured support systems, which signal the growing professionalization of Benin’s private technology sector.

The fund’s mechanisms reveal a particularly robust co-financing strategy. Winners receive funding packages ranging from 55 to 85 million FCFA, covering up to 70% of project requirements. More than a cash injection, the program includes a substantial technical assistance component covering sector-specific expertise, regulatory compliance through certification, and the strengthening of business plans.

According to Inawa Institute’s experts, this approach is critical to long-term business viability. The goal is to build profitable models capable of delivering tangible social and environmental impact, while preparing these startups to secure additional private investment within two years. Through its presence at this event, Inawa Institute acts as a strategic partner in maximizing the impact of these development initiatives.
