With funding from the European Union in Benin, the Institut National de la Statistique et de la Démographie (INStaD, formerly INSAE) selected Inawa Institute to strengthen the capacities of ministry-level statisticians and planners in statistical methods and software. The selection was based on Inawa Institute’s recognized expertise and its experts’ strong track records in professional training.
To that end, a series of five training modules spread over five months was launched on July 22, 2021. The opening session brought together Inawa Institute’s technical team, led by Koffi A. Gueguehoun, with trainers Damase Sossou and Dr. Gbetoton Nadège Djossou, alongside Mr. Jules Daga, Deputy Director of INStaD.
Mr. Daga emphasized the importance of modernizing data systems: “Our ambition for data collection is to digitalize it. One of the actions planned under our strategy is to strengthen information system capacities at the sectoral level.”
Delivered simultaneously in person and online, the workshops aim to strengthen participants’ skills in data collection and analysis through modern statistical methods and tools, including ODK, R, STATA, SPSS, and QGIS. Beyond technical capacity building, the program is expected to improve the quality, accessibility, and analysis of statistical data, and with it the monitoring and evaluation of public policies and government programs in Benin.
This program reflects the shared commitment of the European Union, INStaD, and Inawa Institute to strengthening Benin’s national statistical system and promoting evidence-based decision-making.
